Q: How should a customer send in a unit for warranty repair to the factory?
Q: How does the radar
scrambler work?
A: It works on all police radar bands (x, k, ka, super wide). Inside the
scrambler are 3 parts:
1) A FM Chip generator
2) A mixer diode
3) A dual ridge wave guide antenna
When the scrambler is hit by a signal, it will take the signal, and run it
through the mixer, add the FM Chirp to mix up the signal, and (using the
antenna) reflects back this signal to the radar gun. What happens next? =>
The radar gun’s computer can’t recognize all the speeds; it gets confused
and won’t display a reading on the gun (leaving a blank screen or two
dashes).
Q: How does the Laser
Scrambler work?
A: With a laser gun, the scrambler has a pair of high power infrared LED’s
that pulse in front of your car, which interferes with the laser gun’s
ability to determine your speed by confusing the laser’s computer.
Q: Is the scrambler active
or passive?
A: The radar scrambler is passive and the laser scrambler is active.
Q: What is the difference between the Phazer II (RMR-S201) and the
combination RMR-C450 & RMR-C430 units?
A: The Phazer 2 (RMR-S201) is strictly a scrambler and the combination
units, incorporate the scrambling capabilities with a high performance radar
detector.
Q: Is the Phazer II
(RMR-S201) a detector?
A: NO, it will NOT alert you to any police radar. It is not designed to
provide detection. It will not alert you when it is scrambling.
Q:
Will the Phazer II (RMR-S201) interfere with my radar detector?
A: No, since the RMR-S201 does not transmit a signal of its own.
Q: What is the
range of the scrambling protection?
A: The Phazer II (RMR-S201) and the RMR-C430 / RMR-C450 will only scramble
in the direction they are facing. They provide coverage for the entire front
of your vehicle, up to (4) times the range of a radar gun.
Q: What is the range of a
radar gun?
A: It Depends on the radar gun and the type of the radar gun, it can be
anywhere from a mile to 2 miles.
Q: Will the units scramble the roadside trailer signs that display yourt
speed as you approach them?
A: The roadside trailer signs do use radar to determine your speed, however,
they do not have a sampling computer like the radar guns do. These signs
merely take an average and will ignore any mixed up signals they receive.
Citations can’t be issued from these signs for this reason.
Q: Will the scrambler
work on photo radar?
A: YES, if they are taking your picture from the front. If they are taking
pictures of the rear of your vehicle, you will need to add a scrambler
Phazer II (RMR-S201) to the back window.
Q: How are these units legal?
A: The FCC regulates all consumer products that transmit or leak radio
frequency into the air. (Part 15 of the FCC code) Since the scrambler and
the combination units do not transmit but merely act as a reflective
receiver they are legal under the FCC regulations. Regarding the laser
scrambler, there are no Federal laws against transmission of infrared light,
so the laser-scrambling portion is legal as well. And all the units have an
FCC label on the bottom (except for the Phazer II).
Q: What is the punch-Through
zone?
A: Radar (X, K, Ka super wide and instant-on) Signals come out in a cone
shape, the farther it goes, the wider and weaker the signal gets.
Punch-through is when the signal being reflected off the car is equal in
strength to our scrambling strength. On average, 50-200 feet. At this range
lock-on is possible. There is typically no punch-through with laser.
Q: How do I know the
scrambler is working?
A: When you turn the unit on and it goes through the self-test (a series of
tones), this is telling you all the circuits in the scrambler are working
correctly.
Q: Where are these units illegal?
A: The scrambler and the combination units are banned in IL, TN (unless the
scrambler is deactivated), OK, MN, VA, CA, NE, UT, and Washington, D.C. They
are legal in some providence’s of Canada and many foreign countries. The
combination units can be used in all states except VA, D.C if the scrambler
is switched off.
Q: Are the detectors FCC
Compliant?
A: Yes, all Rocky Mountain Radar products are compliant and certified.
Q: How far away do they work?
A: The radar scrambler works from 4 to 6 times the range of the gun and the
laser scrambler works at more than 2 times the lidar range.
Q: Which
lights indicate what is operating on the RMR-C430?
A: On the RMR-C430 units, left to right:
1) Power – green
2) Test – ambler
3) X – green
4) K – yellow
5) KA – ambler
6) For Laser, everything across will light up
Q: Which
lights indicate what is operating on the RMR-C450?
A: On the RMR-C450 units, left to right:
1) Power – ambler
2) Test – green
3) X – red
4) K – green
5) KA – green
6) For laser, everything across will light up
Q: Why won’t my unit turn on?
A: Check the following:
1) The on/off thumbwheel on the side of the unit
2) The fuse in the power cord
3) The fuse for you cigarette lighter
4) If it is none of these, return the unit to the manufacturer for repair /
replace.
Q: Where is the best
place to mount my unit?
A: We recommend a center windshield mount (right below the rear-view mirror)
for maximum coverage. There must be no metallic interference with the unit.
Q: Which direction
should the unit be facing?
A: On both the scrambler and the combination units, the smoke screen and the
green power light faces towards the inside of your vehicle, and the unit
must be mounted level.
Q: Can these units be hardwired?
A: Yes:
1) Clip off the cigarette lighter end and connect the white strip (ribbed)
wire to 12 volts and the other (black) wire to ground. Add an in-line fuse
to the power side (black-white wire). The fuse should be a 2 amp/fast
burning type.
2) The power cord with the dotted white strip. Connect the black wire to 12
volts, and the dotted white strip wire to ground. Add an in-line wire to
fuse to the power side (black wire). The fuses should be a 5 amp/fast
burning type.
Q: Will my unit protect me from VASCAR (airplanes and helicopters)?
A: No, VASCAR is basically a fancy stopwatch used to time a vehicle from
point A to point B. The time between points determines your speed. It is not
radar or laser.
Q: What is VG-2 / VG-3?
A: VG-2 is a device police use to detect the leakage from a detector. It is
used in states where detectors are banned, and for commercial vehicles. VG-3
is a new unit designed to detect Bel / Escort & Valentine detectors.
Q: Does my unit cover VG-2 &
VG-3?
A: Yes, all units are undetectable to VG-2 / VG-3, but you can activate the
VG-2 alert system to warn you of use in your area.
Q: How do I
activate the VG-2 alert on the RMR-C450?
A: Press and hold the CITY button down for an extended period of time (3 to
5 Seconds) until the voice announces “VG-2 on”. To deactivate, follow the
same procedures until you hear the voce “VG-2 off”.
Q: How do I
activate the VG-2 alert on the RMR-C430?
A: Press and hold the CITY button until you hear 3 quick beeps. To
deactivate, follow the same procedures but this time you will hear a flat
buzz sound.
Q: Do the units have memory?
A: Yes, all current models of Rocky Mountain Radar products have memory that
will return to the last setting even if the unit is turned off or unplugged.
Q: Does the factory offer
a visor mount?
A: No, they only offer one type of windshield mount.
Q: Will the
scrambler work with tinted windows?
A: Yes, unless the tint contains metal particles or the unit is mounted low
on the dash where the windshield wipers or other metallic materials exist;
this will reduce the effectiveness of the units.
Q: Do the units scrambler
360 degrees?
A: No, a scrambler is a forward scrambler only. The combination units DETECT
360 degrees.
Q: Does
the RMR-C430 / RMR-C450 come with the scrambler activated?
A: Yes
Q:
How do I know the scrambler is activated on the RMR-C430 / RMR-C450?
A: On the RMR-C430 / RMR-C450, when you turn the unit on and it goes though
the set up mode, the “T” light will come on and go off and stay off, and you
will hear a soft chirp from the speaker.
Q: What is D.D.I?
A: Dense Digital Integration puts more signal processing functions in fewer
IC’s. Fewer components equal better performance, more reliability, and lower
cost.
Q: What is Micro-Scan?
A: Scans the radar bands 2-4 times faster than as any other detector. This
allows us to pick up the new P.O.P. radar - that no one else can.
Q: What is Smart-Scan?
A: When we detect radar in one scan we repeat that scan, instead of
completing programmed scans and returning. This means we detect quicker with
less false alarms than any other detector.
Q: What is POP Detection?
A: A very short pulse, about 1/10 length of instant on. The POP pulse comes
on then off before most detectors can get to the band to see it. A pulse
similar to instant on radar except it is very short - too short for any
detector to see except Rocky Mountain Radar. (On models with Micro-Scan).
Q: What is Adaptive Laser
Tracking?
A: Monitors the infrared ambient noise level and adjusts the detection
threshold to compensate, resulting in better Laser detection with fewer
false alarms.
Q: What is IntelliVoice?
A: Declares a target once with voice, then it will only signal with tones if
the same band is used with 60 seconds.
Q: What is K Band?
A: This one it the most commonly user radar bands. K Band denotes
frequencies between 24.05 and 24.25 GHz.
Q: What is KA Band?
A: The newer version of police radar, KA incorporates both “Wide-Band” and
“Super Wide-Band” and operates from 33.4 to 36.0 GHz.
Q: What are SWS & SA alerts?
A: SWS – warning radar signals (Bell & Escort) and SA alert systems (Cobra)
Q: What band are the SWS
& SA signals?
A: They are all K bands.
Q: Do RMR products detect the Safety Warning Radar signals (i.e. SWS &SA)?
A: Yes, the unit incorporates the Safety Alerts (SA) and Safety Warning
Systems (SWS) detection. This safety feature warns you of the presence of
potential road hazards by detecting signals from safety transmitting
devices.
Q: What are the City
& Highway modes for?
A: Urban areas contain many electronic devices that can give false readings
on your detector. When in City Mode, the sensitivity of the radar unit is
reduced so as to reduce false readings. In Highway Mode, the unit is
returned to maximum sensitivity.
Q: What are Digital Voice Alerts?
A: With the use of a voice chirp, alerts are spoken via a digitally recorded
message.
Q: What is the Dim Control for?
A: This function allows you to adjust the brightness of your detectors
display. All units have four levels of dim as standard features.
Q: How do Police Radar function?
A: Police Radar units take 8 measurements of a vehicles speed in about ½ a
second. This “sampling” by the computer gives an accurate speed for the
vehicle.
Q: What is the registration
card for?
A: The registration card enrolls you in Rocky Mountain Radar's one-year
ticket rebate program.
Q: How should a customer send in a unit for warranty repair to the factory?
A: Follow the instructions:
1) Include a note stating the problem
2) Physical return address (NO P.O. Boxes)
3) Telephone number
4) Proof of purchase
5) Send to:
